The word Gestalt means “whole” and focuses holistically on you and your experiences together. This “whole” is greater than the sum of its parts. Its not tomatoes and onion and spices, its spaghetti sauce. You are not just a husband, father, an avid reader, runner and an employee, you are Adam. You are greater as a whole, than focusing on one of the "parts" of your life's actions or responsibilities or even character traits. Often times, there are things in your past that are affecting your capability to clearly see this reality. Physiological and physical symptoms can arise if unresolved anger, pain, anxiety, resentment and other negative feelings were not dealt with. Bringing the past into the present through self-awareness allowing you to gain a proper, and true perspective, is a key ingredient in the Gestalt approach. Understanding the entirety of past situations, and then taking responsibility rather than placing blame, is just one of the tools that are learned through Gestalt Techniques. These techniques are often creative, immersive, and active. The aim of Gestalt techniques is to help you gain awareness, stay present, and delve into important experiences and emotions, in order to learn how to heal, free of judgment and guilt.
