Single Parents
Suddenly you're in a life circumstance that no one plans for or dreams will ever be their story. Whether you were once with the partner of your child who is now gone, or you are living through an unexpected divorce situation, life as a single parent was not something you saw coming. How do you plan now? How do you move forward without the the fear that you're going to mess that up to? What's the use? What's point? Maybe you feel like a victim and now trust no one and you believe you have to do everything by yourself, for yourself ... and now you're exhausted.
After a 15 years of marriage, it was unfathomable for Andrew that he would one day be a single parent himself. At the age of 38 he found himself with 7 , 8 and 11 year old boys in a post divorce, co-parenting situation. This was insanely difficult for him to now to make choices with another person who no longer shared his value, lifestyle, let alone the same home as they once did. The emotions and anger were also incredibly difficult to manage as life had to go on with very little choice in the circumstances.
A little over a year later, their mother passed away, leaving him a true single parent. If there is anyone who knows what its like to not want to get out of bed, and then have days where you're just pulling yourself up by your bootstraps "just for your kid's sake", its Andrew. Working through feelings such as anger, resentment, frustration which can lead to anxiety, depression and simply accepting reality, is imperative to survival and growth. Having experienced what it is like to be solely responsible to keep tiny humans alive, and care and nurture them, Andrew has an empathetic listening ear single parents who need someone who understands what they are living through, and will encourage them in this unknown journey of their new life.
